How do I audition for a YIT Production?

Once you are registered for one of our semester productions, you will receive an email with audition information. Students must be registered to audition. Our auditions are for placement in the cast only we do not make cuts. Casts are limited to 30 to 40 students.

Does YIT rent props, sets, or costumes?

We do! For information on prop rentals, please email Luke Lecher.

Does YIT make donations to silent auctions?

Each year, YIT will make a limited number of donations to charitable events for a free private lesson, class tuition discount, or performance tickets for the season. Email Luke Lecher to request a contribution. Priority will be given to the following groups:

-Local Education Organizations

-Arts Organizations

-Local Social Service Organizations dealing with children

We regret we are unable to make donations to the following types of benefits and organizations:

-Benefits for a specific individual or family

-Fundraisers for political purpose

-Secondary requests on behalf of a National Organization (for-profit organizations or individuals raising money for another group such as United Way, American Cancer Society, Susan G. Komen, etc…)

We are unable to provide cash donations/sponsorships.

How long are the performances?

Kids productions are typically 30-45 minutes and Mainstage productions are typically 75-90 minutes.

How old should my child be to attend the children's theatre?

Our productions are family friendly. We look to parents and guardians to make their own choices. If your child can attend a children’s movie in a movie theater, they should be just fine seeing one of our shows. If your child gets antsy during a production, you’re always welcome to join us in the lobby area.

Is there an intermission?

Kids production do not have an intermission. Mainstage productions have a 15-20 minute intermission.

What happens if I am late for a performance?

We know sometimes lateness is unavoidable. We will do our best to seat you regardless of how late you are; however, please know that this can be distracting to the actors and other patrons. In order to minimize distraction, we can’t guarantee that we will be able to seat latecomers in their reserved seat, but we will set you in the best available seats at an appropriate moment in the performance.

Where are performances held?

Kids production performances are held at Meridian St. United Methodist Church.
Main Stage production performances are held at Shelton Auditorium at Butler University.

How are classes set up?

To ensure the highest quality environment of education and safety for all of our students, classes are broken down by the following ages:

Little Stars: Ages 2-5

Rising Stars: Ages 6-9

Shooting Stars: 10-18

Certain classes or programs may have adjusted or combined levels, which will be listed within the class description. YIT recognizes that students are most effective when they are placed in groups of similar age.

Does my child need to be experienced for YIT classes?

YIT is an educational organization that is geared toward individual education for all students. We form our classes based on where each student is at experience wise to help them grow throughout the semester. We have several options for children that are brand new to theatre and want to explore as well as more advanced options for students who already have a firm foundation of performing arts knowledge.

Does my child need to wear a face mask during rehearsals, camps or classes?

We do not require masks and leave that decision up to each individual family on what is best for their child. We do not perform in masks.

How early can children start private lessons?

YIT offers private lessons for students started at 8 years old. We do take students younger on a case by case basis. We have 2 group classes to help younger students get a solid foundation before private lessons: Voice Together (group voice) and Kids on Keys (group piano).

My child is very advanced for their age. Can they participate in a class for older children?

We receive this request quite often. Students are divided into appropriate age ranges based on both emotional and cognitive development, and we stick to those parameters.

How do I audition for a YIT Production?

Audition materials will be sent on the following dates for 2022-23:
August 20 Fall productions
December 1 Stars Company
January 1 Spring productions

How early can children start private lessons?

YIT offers private lessons for students starting at 8 years old. Younger students are taken on a case by case basis. We have a group voice class, called Broadway Voice, that establishes a foundation for proper vocal technique and musicianship.
